Robin & I were down in Houston for my second Via Colori, a wonderful street art festival benefitting the Speech and Hearing Center. The MINI dealers of Houston co-sponsored me. It was pretty darn cold, and a bit rainy the first day, so I only got three of the four pieces I had planned done. As always, Lisa Benitez and the guys at BSSP were terrific to work with. Despite the less than perfect weather, the artists did some fantastic work, and the music and crowds were great.

June saw Robin & I in Merry Ole England, at the London Westfield Mall, where my dirty drawing was part of a big stunt for Renault. It was very cool; they had three areas that represented three parts of the US. I worked in the Arizona area, depicting a Renault vehicle in Monument Valley on a sheet of plexiglass (perspex, they called over there). I was hired by Curb Media, a very hip marketing firm in London that specializes in green techniques that do no environmental harm. We were treated very well and had a wonderful time. While we were there we got to see a bit of London- Robin's first time- ate great food and absorbed as much as we could of that great city during our brief visit.

This one was a doozy. Ad agency, BSSP contacted me to see if I could create some artwork for a stunt to generate interest in the Spring Cleaning Sales Event to take place at dealerships in Houston, LA, New York and Chicago. The original idea was to do artwork on 2 work vans in each of the 4 cities. They would be driven around to strategic locations and to event for 2 weeks prior to the sales events. The vans ended up being large delivery trucks with boxes 16' x 8' on the sides, and 8' x 8' on the back. There was only a month to plan the whole thing. The art would differ from my usual medium, in that the truck panels were white and I would use dark dust, and I would be working on the body of the vehicle instead of glass. I hired my fellow artist and dear friend, Rico Morales, to help by handling the art on the rear of the vehicles, leaving me free to concentrate on the side panels. This project ending up being the hardest thing I've ever done. We averaged about 3 hours of sleep a night, worked in the heat, in the cold, sometimes in downright scary conditions, got incredibly filthy- but everything turned out great, we actually had a lot of fun, and made some great friends! MINI is awesome! And the producer, Rebecca Lanthorne, and art director, Eric Styles, pitched in and made it possible for us to meet the deadlines. A couple of sweeties, and highly competent professionals.

You can read more about our exploits in the #45 issue of MC2 magazine.

Take 190 West, Killeen, TX March 2nd, 2013

Art Festival in Killeen. Everyone else was inside and it was about 40∘F and windy. But I soldiered on and produced this image from the John Wayne movie, Stagecoach. Nice community and some good art on display. I was glad to have my friend, Rico, there, and Robin drove up mid-day. Our friends, Allen and Madonna Kimble, were there. Allen has written some really fun, educational and entertaining books. Check him out (especially you Texans):
